About Hurtado |

|
Hurtado Health Center is the largest of the three health centers that make up Rutgers University Health Services (Busch-Livingston Health Center, Willets Health Center are the others, and Rutgers also maintains health centers in Newark and Camden). Every year, we have over 20,000 medical visits for essentially any medical issue. We provide both acute care (e.g. for problems such as injuries, illnesses, rashes) and ongoing care (e.g. routine gynecological exams, asthma care, acne). Our clinical staff includes board certified physicians specializing in pediatrics, family medicine, internal (adult) medicine, adolescent medicine, and sports medicine; nurse practitioners; registered nurses; and health techs (About Our Staff). But we don't just take care of "medical" problems at Hurtado. Housed in our building is Occupational Health (for employees), Mental Health (including psychiatrists), Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program for Students (ADAPS), Health Education, Student Insurance, Laboratory and Pharmacy services. If you are a registered, full-time Rutgers University student, or if you have paid the health activity fee, then you are eligible to use our facilities free of charge. This means that you have unlimited visits to a health care professional without cost, paperwork, or insurance hassles. Medication is NOT covered by Rutgers insurance (but may be if you have an insurance plan through work or your parents). Most testing is covered by Rutgers, but there may be additional charges for some tests or procedures. Hurtado's clinicians are well qualified to take care of the vast majority of health concerns for the Rutgers community. In the event that a referral to a specialist is required, we can send you to an outside specialist. Depending upon whether (and what type of) outside health insurance you have, this may well entail additional expense. For more information: |
