On-Campus Testing

Students Who are Part of a Group That Requires Testing

If you are a member of a group that has been authorized to receive testing, you will receive a message from Student Health, Occupational Health, or your department that offers guidance regarding how to receive testing and includes a testing questionnaire and laboratory requisition form that must be completed on the Return to Rutgers COVID-19 Testing page, go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing.

If you are unable to access the questionnaire or site OR if you experience COVID-19 symptoms, call Rutgers Student Health at 848-932-7402. They will help you and will schedule a same-day appointment time to speak with one of our clinicians, answer your questions, and give you a test that day.

On-Campus Testing
Testing Tuesday is the time designated for weekly testing of residential students and other groups who have arranged testing and have completed the questionnaire and requisition forms. Group testing brings COVID testing to your fraternity, sorority, lab, or apartment. Tests are then collected and brought back to the Health Centers for processing. If you missed your group testing, please make an appointment for later that week online at go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing. Make sure to bring your Rutgers ID to the appointment.

Should you choose to go elsewhere for your testing, please note that PCR testing is the only test that will be accepted. Antibody testing will not be accepted and will be rejected if uploaded.

Out-of-state students can request to have a testing kit mailed to them by emailing Rutgers Student Health at: health@rutgers.edu

If you are not required to receive testing, you will not be able to access the necessary forms.

Students Who Want to Receive Testing

  • All RU-NB students living off-campus in the New Brunswick/Piscataway area are eligible to receive testing once they register their local address with the Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships (OCLCP) Office. Local addresses are needed in order for public health officials to properly track and respond to the pandemic. To register with OCLCP, visit rutgers.edu/h5mtw6tj.
  • All registered Greek Life students are authorized for testing. Many Chapters are participating in group delivery of tests to the Chapter House. Please check with your Chapter for instructions. If your organization  is not participating in the Chapter delivery and distribution or you missed the day for your Chapter, you can go to the COVID-19 Sample Collection page (https://rtr.ipo.rutgers.edu/covid/), to schedule a time to conduct the test.
  • Any student experiencing symptoms (listed below) or who has had contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, should call Rutgers Student Health at 848-932-7402.

Please Note: Student Health CANNOT contact professors, deans, or your parents with your results. We are obligated to notify you and the Middlesex Department of Health. The same is true of any medical office, including urgent care offices.

Testing in Middlesex County (including New Brunswick)

All COVID-19 testing performed at the Middlesex County Health Services sites are free for Middlesex County residents, but require an appointment. Residents wishing to make an appointment should visit Middlesexcountynj.gov/COVID19testing to register and receive a time to report to the testing site.

To receive testing, you must:

  • Be a Middlesex County resident (proof of residency is required)*
  • Make an appointment online or via phone

*Rutgers students living off-campus in the New Brunswick/Piscataway area as well as students living in on-campus residence halls are eligible to receive testing through Middlesex county. Middlesex County Test Results

For the Middlesex County Saliva-based COVID-19 diagnostic tests, results are usually provided within 3-5 business days.   The Office of Health Services will then contact you by phone with a positive or negative result.  The phone call will likely come from a 732-745-XXXX number.   Test results can not be left on voicemail, so you must answer the phone when called and/or promptly return calls to the Office of Health Services after being tested.  To learn more about what to do once you get your results, visit our “Understanding your COVID-19 Test Results” page.

Documentation of results for tests obtained outside of Rutgers should be uploaded to go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing. Should you choose to go elsewhere for your testing, please note that PCR testing is the only test that will be accepted. Antibody testing will not be accepted and will be rejected if uploaded.
