With the supervision and direct support of the Coordinator of the Alcohol and
other Drug Education Program for Training, this student will coordinate the
distribution of nicotine addiction "Breathe Easy Kits", and work
closely with professional staff in coordinating the Great American Smokeout
(GAS). Consistent with the department vision of student empowerment, this
student will be considered a student staff member of the Department of Health
Education, and thus afforded the rights, responsibilities, and privileges which
accompany such a title.
As the Department of Health Education ADEPT Materials Assistant, this student
will:
- Compile materials for "Breathe Easy Kits";
- Fill requests for kits and them deliver to students, faculty, staff, and
health centers;
- Obtain data from participants in nicotine addiction programs to determine
rate of quitting and recidivism at one- and six-month intervals;
- Establish sites on the New Brunswick campus for GAS, order materials from
the American Cancer Society (ACS), American Lung Association, and other
agencies to be placed in the kits;
- Collect data to determine the extent of outreach as a result of the
Smokeout;
- Distribute signs and posters to convenience stores to display positive
health messages at point of sales for tobacco products;
All applicants must be Rutgers University students available to work 5 to 10
hours per week. Applicants should possess the ability to work independently and
must be able to express themselves in a clear and concise manner. Experience
with e-mail and word processing is encouraged. Access to a car would be useful.
