With the supervision and direct support of the Director of the RUHS Department
of Health Education, this student will act as a resource for the students
working in the department and/or taking its training courses. Consistent with
the department vision of student empowerment, this person will be considered a
student staff member of the Department of Health Education, and thus afforded
the rights, responsibilities, and privileges which accompany such a title.
As the Department of Health Education External Communication Specialist, this
student will:
- Communicate regularly with the Webmaster/Systems Administrator to aid in
the evaluation and improvement of external website function (i.e. student
staff applications, program forms, etc.);
- Develop Department of Health Education promotional items with the
assistance of graphic artists, orientation co-coordinators, and others;
- Recruit students for the Department of Health Education by going to speak
in first and second-year classes and contacting students who express
interest in becoming advocates on evaluation forms;
- Develop a plan for public relations and informational outreach so students
on campus know about the department and its programs and services, the RUHS
services, and general health information;
- Initiate and facilitate focus groups for DHE pamphlets, PSAs, and
advertisements to assess the effectiveness of outreach;
- Assist the Secretarial Assistant with university media responsibilities as
necessary;
- Meet with the Director and Student Staff Cabinet once every two weeks.
All applicants must be Rutgers University students with at least three semesters
of experience with the Department of Health Education and the availability to
work 10-15 hours/week. Applicants should possess the ability to work
independently and the ability to express themselves in a clear and concise
manner. Experience with e-mail and word processing is required.
