The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs

With the supervision and direct support of the Director of the RUHS Department of Health Education, this student will act as a resource for the students working in the department and/or taking its training courses. Consistent with the department vision of student empowerment, this person will be considered a student staff member of the Department of Health Education, and thus afforded the rights, responsibilities, and privileges which accompany such a title.

As the Department of Health Education External Communication Specialist, this student will:

  • Communicate regularly with the Webmaster/Systems Administrator to aid in the evaluation and improvement of external website function (i.e. student staff applications, program forms, etc.);
  • Develop Department of Health Education promotional items with the assistance of graphic artists, orientation co-coordinators, and others;
  • Recruit students for the Department of Health Education by going to speak in first and second-year classes and contacting students who express interest in becoming advocates on evaluation forms;
  • Develop a plan for public relations and informational outreach so students on campus know about the department and its programs and services, the RUHS services, and general health information;
  • Initiate and facilitate focus groups for DHE pamphlets, PSAs, and advertisements to assess the effectiveness of outreach;
  • Assist the Secretarial Assistant with university media responsibilities as necessary;
  • Meet with the Director and Student Staff Cabinet once every two weeks.
All applicants must be Rutgers University students with at least three semesters of experience with the Department of Health Education and the availability to work 10-15 hours/week. Applicants should possess the ability to work independently and the ability to express themselves in a clear and concise manner. Experience with e-mail and word processing is required.
