Student Health Advocates Developing Educational Scenarios (SHADES) Actor

   SHADES is an interactive, improvisational theater ensemble in which all of the material performed is created, written, acted, and directed by the cast members. Our ensemble seeks to confront crucial and sometimes untouched topics, bringing to light their shades of complexity. SHADES sparks dialogue with it's audience to educate and to help break the barriers that prevent positive health decisions.

   SHADES Theater, established in 1995, is a multi-cultural company of Rutgers University Students. Now in it's 10th year, SHADES continues to engage its audience in art that touches a chord, prompts questions, and makes the connections.

The Audience
   SHADES performs for various University departmentsresidence halls, student organizations, fraternity and sororities, and classrooms. SHADES also performs for colleges and universities, high schools, youth programs, and conferences. 

The Topics
A SHADES performance may include scenes dealing with:

• Sexual Choices & Sexual Health
• HIV/AIDS
• Body Image
• Dating & Relationship Violence
• Alcohol & Other Drugs
• Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Issues
• Racism
• Contraception
• Mental Health

    SHADES Auditions are held every semester. Fall 2005 auditions will be held on:

• Tuesday, September 13^th, Rutgers Student Center , Room 402
• Wednesday, September 14^th, Livingston Student Center , Room 113
• Thursday, September 15^th, Douglass College , Bunting-Cobb Lounge, 2^nd Floor
• Friday, September 16^th, Callbacks, Hurtado Health Center , 11 Bishop Place , Room 320, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

All auditions are open and are from 8:00 10:00 p.m. A monologue will be provided or bring your own. No experience necessary.
