With the supervision and direct support of the Coordinator of Health Promotion, this student will promote health and wellness by serving as the instructor's assistant and a resource for the students enrolled in the course. Consistent with the department vision of student empowerment, this student will be considered a student staff member of the Department of Health Education, and thus afforded the rights, responsibilities, and privileges which accompany such a title.
As a Department of Health Education Teaching Assistant, this student will:
- Meet with the instructor during the semester or summer prior to beginning the position to discuss the process of the course and assist in solidifying the curriculum;
- Devise a contact and attendance list during the first two weeks of class;
- Compile materials and attend bi-weekly lectures;
- Meet with the instructor weekly to update the course binder, provide input for future projects and classes, and evaluate students' progress and participation in the course;
- Facilitate class discussions intermittently throughout the semester;
- Recruit students for the following semester.
All applicants must be Rutgers University students available to work 6 hours per week. All applicants must have completed the course Developing a Wellness Lifestyle prior to appointment to the position. Applicants should possess the ability to work independently and the ability to express themselves in a clear and concise manner. Experience with e-mail, word-processing, spreadsheet programs, and internet functions is encouraged but not required.
