problems like acne, infections); accidents, and sports related injuries such as

asthma or diabetes. Referrals for specialty consultations and care can be made
when necessary.

Men's Health Care
For males,
preventive health services and screening for sexually transmitted infections and
other health concerns unique to men are available.
Immunizations,
TB testing, flu vaccines
Reviewing, screening, and
updating immunizations is provided. Since the student insurance
does not cover the cost of immunizations, students must pay separately for the vaccines. For information on Rutgers University immunization
requirements and other vaccines, visit http://health.rutgers.edu/vaccine/vaccine-u.htm.
For information on pre-entrance immunization requirements, visit http://health.rutgers.edu/Immunizations/faq.htm.
Allergy
Treatment
Allergy injections can be
provided according to a prescribed schedule for a minimal fee per visit,
with allergens and instructions provided by the patient's private health
practitioner.
Laboratory
Tests
Phlebotomy services are
available for students who require laboratory testing. A selected number
of basic tests are included in the Health Fee or Basic Insurance at no charge to
the student.
Physical
Examinations
Physical Examinations are
provided when necessary or when requested by a third party such as for
college-sponsored programs and pre-employment physicals.
Nutrition
Counseling
Clinical staff can provide
nutrition counseling. Just ask
your regular health care provider.
HIV
Testing
Confidential HIV testing is
available at the health centers. Also, anonymous HIV testing is offered at Robert Wood Johnson
Hospital in New Brunswick (732-235-7114).
Sexually
Transmitted Infection (STI) Testing and Treatment
Confidential STI testing and treatment is available at a health
center.
Sports Medicine
While all our clinicians have experience dealing with injuries common to a
college population, RUHS does have physicians specifically trained in sports
medicine on staff at some health centers. We will make a referral for a
surgical consultation as needed.
Specialty Consultations
Referral to off-campus providers or specialty
services will be made when necessary and will entail an additional charge. A student, spouse,
or partner needing health care who is covered by the basic health care insurance
plan should first consult with a provider at one of the university's Health
Centers. If subsequent referral to a community based provider becomes
necessary it will be made by a health center physician or nurse practitioner.
Following this procedure ensures that a portion of the office fee will be
covered by the insurance plan. Bypassing referral means that the student will be held responsible for the
entire office fee from an outside health provider.
