The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs

January 5, 2004
There was a confirmed case of SARS in China. At this time, it appears to have been an isolated event and no travel alerts/advisories have been issued.

Rutgers University Health Services have been closely following the developments surrounding the appearance and spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and we are working in collaboration with other university departments to respond to the needs of the university community.  Although there are no suspected cases or suspicious illnesses on campus, we thought it would be helpful for you to have information about this disease.

Fortunately, it appears that SARS has been brought under control worldwide.  While this is very good news, continued vigilance is necessary to insure that there is no resurgence of this serious illness.
