It's 5 PM on a Saturday evening and suddenly you feel sick.  You cant go home, your roommate is away for the weekend and the Health Center on campus is closed.   What do you do????

Call the RUHS Advice Nurse Line  1-800-890-5882

  • The RUHS Advice Nurse Line program is available at no charge to Rutgers University students who need medical advice for their own urgent medical problems that arise when our Health Centers are closed.

  • The RUHS Advice Nurse Line provides access to a Registered Nurse with special training in medical telephone advice. These experienced nurses can answer health-related questions and help students decide the best course of action to take. Depending upon the problem, the Advice Nurse staff will help students decide if they should seek immediate medical care, make an appointment with one of the RUHS Health Centers when they are open, or take care of themselves with some helpful tips on self-health care.

  • The Advice Nurse Line is NOT to be used for life-threatening emergencies. For life-threatening emergencies students should still call the RUPD or access an outside line and call 9-1-1. Students should also understand that the Advice Nurse cannot schedule RUHS Health Center Appointments.

  • The RUHS Advice Nurse Line is produced by I-TRAX, Health Management Solutions, using standardized procedures and nationally recognized Clinical Triage Protocols. RUHS will review the calls the next day for quality assurance and to provide appropriate follow-up with students.
