Who Can Receive COVID-19 Testing

If you have been authorized to receive testing, you will receive a message from Student Health, Occupational Health, or your department that offers guidance regarding how to receive testing and includes a testing questionnaire that must be completed on the Return to Rutgers COVID-19 Testing page, go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing.

If you are not required to receive testing, you will not be able to access the necessary forms.

Please Note: Only PCR testing, which is one of the methods of testing for COVID-19, will be accepted. Antibody testing will not be accepted and will be rejected if submitted.

Guidelines for COVID-19 Testing

Testing may be obtained from your physician, local testing site or pharmacy, or at one of the clinics listed below. Documentation of results for tests obtained outside of Rutgers should be uploaded to go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing.

PCR testing is one method of testing for COVID-19 and is the only test that will be accepted. Antibody testing will not be accepted and will be rejected if uploaded.

Out-of-state students can request to have a testing kit mailed to them by emailing Rutgers Student Health at: health@rutgers.edu

Students Moving In To On-Campus Housing:

All students moving in to on-campus housing must undergo COVID-19 PCR testing 1 – 3 weeks prior to move-in day. Testing will be offered on-campus or by special arrangement for mail-in for out-of-state students. If you are an out-of-state student and would like to request to have a test kit mailed to you, please email health@rutgers.edu. Students may also obtain testing on their own and upload to the Return to Rutgers COVID-19 Testing page: go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing.

A second test will be done at move-in. Students should expect periodic testing throughout the semester.

Students Currently Residing in On-Campus Housing

Students who are currently residing in on-campus housing will need to undergo COVID-19 PCR testing according to the following schedule:

  • Once within the next 3 weeks
  • 1-2 weeks after the first test.

Periodic testing throughout the semester should be expected.

Students Who Tested Positive for COVID-19 Prior to August 5, 2020

Any student who tested positive for COVID-19 prior to August 5, 2020 will not be required to be re-tested but will be required to upload their laboratory results to the testing page: go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing.

Rutgers Test Results

You will be notified via email when your test results are available for viewing. You can access your results by logging into Return to Rutgers COVID-19 Testing page, go.rutgers.edu/COVID-19-Testing.
