Kia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is a Community Based Counselor for CAPS embedded in the Mason Gross School of Arts and the Paul Robeson Cultural Center.
Kia has had many years of experience in providing comprehensive therapeutic interventions to support the needs of children and adults in various stages of life. Kia believes therapy is a partnership with the client, therapist, and other professionals providing mental health services.
Through a strength-based perspective, she strives to ensure that her clients leave each session with coping techniques, a thorough understanding of their diagnoses, and resources they can store in their coping skills toolbox. Her therapeutic modality of choice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She feels in many cases, it helps the client challenge negative thoughts, find unhealthy patterns, and better cope with obstacles.
Kia is a proud member of the Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the National Association of University Women, Plainfield-Brunswick Branch, the National Association of Social Workers, and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assualt.
